ScanBeat

Apple Watch football training

The Apple Watch app that trains football scanning

ScanBeat is an iPhone + Apple Watch app that taps your wrist during real football training as a cue to check your shoulder, so scanning the pitch becomes a habit instead of a reminder from your coach.

Free to start. No account required.

Why the watch

Why train with a watch, not a phone?

A phone stays in your bag during practice. A watch is on your wrist for every touch, every drill, every small-sided game.

Haptic cues, not screens

Each cue is a tap on your wrist. There is nothing to look at and nothing to hold — the signal reaches you mid-drill without pulling your eyes off the game.

Invisible in play

To everyone else it's just a watch. No cones, no beeping device, no special drill to explain — the training happens inside your normal session.

Works with the wrist down

You feel the tap while sprinting, shielding or asking for the ball. Your hands stay where a footballer's hands belong: nowhere near a screen.

What you train

Scanning: the glance that decides your next pass

Scanning is the quick look away from the ball — checking your shoulder to see teammates, opponents and space before the ball arrives. Professor Geir Jordet's research on Premier League players found that the best scanners, players like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, averaged around 0.6 scans per second before receiving, and that higher scan frequency correlates with higher pass completion.

The same research shows scanning is trainable. That is the habit ScanBeat targets: every tap on your wrist is one repetition of checking your shoulder, done at game speed, inside real training. Train enough minutes and the cues speed up — from 5-second Beginner intervals toward the Legendary pattern — until you scan without being told.

FAQ

Quick answers

Does ScanBeat work without an iPhone?

No. You need both. The iPhone app is where you set up cue patterns and sessions; the Apple Watch delivers the haptic taps while you train. The two work as a pair.

Which Apple Watch models work?

Any Apple Watch running a recent version of watchOS. If your watch pairs with your iPhone and installs apps from the App Store, ScanBeat will run on it — there is no special hardware requirement beyond the haptic engine every Apple Watch has.

Can I use it during matches?

ScanBeat is built for training sessions — that is where you build the habit safely and get the most repetitions. Wearables are typically not allowed in organized matches, so check the rules with your league or referee before wearing a watch in a game.

Is there an Android or Wear OS version?

No. ScanBeat is built for iPhone and Apple Watch only. There is currently no Android or Wear OS version.

Bring the watch to your next session.

Pick the Beginner pattern, start a session on your watch, and let the first tap remind you to look. Free to start.
